Farm Sanctuary

Speak up for farm animals!

Dear friend of farm animals,

Sign Farm Sanctuary's petition

Of the 9.2 billion animals slaughtered annually in the United States, 9 billion (98%) are chickens, turkeys, and other birds.

Yet the U.S. Department of Agriculture exempts poultry from the protections of the Humane Slaughter Act.

With no protections, nearly one million chickens are boiled alive in U.S. slaughterhouses each year — dropped headfirst, clucking and fully conscious, into scalding de-feathering tanks where they drown in the boiling water.

Other chickens have their legs broken as they’re jammed into shackles on the slaughter line, arrive at the slaughterhouse frozen to their cages, are run over with forklifts, or are thrown alive into trash bins.

Please speak out for urgent protections for chickens and other birds. Farm Sanctuary is asking all of our friends to sign our petition to the Secretary of Agriculture to demand that the USDA do more to end the hideous abuses going on in poultry slaughterhouses, starting with extending protections offered under the Humane Slaughter Act to chickens, turkeys, and other birds.

Farm Sanctuary has been speaking out against injustice to farm animals for years, and we have made progress. But with the new administration proposing $4.7 billion in cuts to the Department of Agriculture, we fear that progress for farm animals will not only stop, but will be eroded.

We urgently need you to add volume to our calls to create long-overdue regulations for poultry slaughter and to enforce them vigorously.

It’s time to right this egregious wrong and demand better for chickens, turkeys, ducks, and other birds.

Sign your petition today!

Yours for farm animals,
