Tell Your Representative to Save Animal Protection Laws!
Dear friend of farm animals,
Last week, in a hastily orchestrated maneuver, the House of Representatives narrowly passed the Farm Bill by a vote of 216-208, including the dangerous and overreaching King Amendment, which undermines state laws regarding farm animal confinement, foie gras sales, horse slaughter, puppy mills, and shark finning. It might also affect a range of other concerns, including food safety, child labor, and the environment.
It is critical for every member of the House to hear from concerned advocates like you as soon as possible.
Please make a brief, polite phone call to your U.S. Representative and urge that s/he work to remove the King Amendment from the final bill. You can simply say: “My name is [insert], and I live in [city]. I’m calling to ask that Rep. XXXX work to remove the King Amendment from the final version of the Farm Bill. The King Amendment, which is in the House version of the Farm Bill, would gut state animal protections while supporting cruel factory farms, so I am asking Rep. XXXX to ask leadership to remove it from the final bill.”
If the person you speak with doesn’t know your Representative’s position, please leave your name and phone number and ask for a call back.
After you call, please be sure to send a follow-up message.
Thank you so much for your compassion for farm animals and for helping to make a difference.
