 Dear
friend of farm animals,
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we are working urgently to help stop the intense suffering of turkeys. Their situation is grave. The abuse they endure on factory farms is difficult to even imagine. Farm Sanctuary’s public awareness campaign to expose the hidden horrors of commercial turkey production, combined with our efforts to rescue and provide refuge to the victims of this cruel industry, are having an impact – opening hearts and minds and creating real change. But we need your help to expand our reach even further. Please donate now to help END the abuse.
Did you know that …
- Between 250 – 300 million turkeys are raised for slaughter every year in the U.S. – more than 46 million for Thanksgiving alone.
- Turkeys are painfully debeaked and detoed without anesthesia, mutilations that can lead to excessive bleeding, infections and even death.
- Turkeys are excluded from the federal Humane Slaughter Act, which requires that animals be stunned prior to slaughter. Even when stunning procedures are used on turkeys, they are rarely monitored or adequate, allowing countless terrified turkeys to move along horrific slaughterhouse disassembly lines while still fully conscious.
- Even so-called "free-range" turkeys are subjected to inhumane treatment. Because the “free-range” label and standards are loosely defined and not closely regulated, turkeys are still genetically manipulated to grow faster and bigger and often debeaked, detoed and crowded tightly together with limited access to the outdoors.
Yes, it’s shocking what turkeys endure. But for more than 20 years we have been making an impact by inspiring people to stop turkey abuse and start a cruelty-free Thanksgiving tradition. Farm Sanctuary has rescued more than 1,000 turkeys and adopted out hundreds more through our Adopt-A-Turkey Project. These animals’ powerful survival stories and individual personalities have inspired countless people and saved the lives of many more turkeys. This kind of awareness-raising is critical. Through our extensive media coverage in outlets like the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the LA Times, MSN, Reuters, and NPR, millions of people are learning the truth behind turkey production.
But, there is so much more we must do. This year, we are ramping up our efforts to stop the abuse of turkeys, save these birds' lives, and expose and publicize the cruelties of the industry. But we need your help.
We must work urgently to expose the abuse perpetrated by the factory farming industry and bring an end to the senseless suffering of farm animals. You can help us create change for turkeys and all farm animals. Please donate today.
 Yours for farm animals,
Gene Baur President and Co-founder, Farm Sanctuary
