Celebrate Spring by sponsoring an animal

Spring is the time of year for new beginnings — warmer weather, blooming flowers, budding trees. It’s a season of rebirth and renewal — and a perfect time to celebrate all that we can achieve when we recommit to putting compassion first.

Some people mark this time of year by purchasing baby animals — such as chicks, ducklings, bunnies, and lambs — as family pets. They see this as fun way to commemorate the season and share the gift of life with their loved ones — but sadly, these gifts come at a cost. It’s easy to fall in love with a baby animal, but most people lack the knowledge, resources, space, and commitment needed to provide the lifelong care these individuals deserve. Though their guardians have good intentions, these animals tend to be treated as temporary playthings rather than the living, feeling beings they are.

Fortunately, it’s easy to celebrate compassionate traditions that honor animals instead of commodifying them. By symbolically adopting a chicken, duck, or sheep resident at Farm Sanctuary, you support these animals’ lifelong care and help us work to end the exploitation of other farm animals just like them.

Clark - AAFA
As a chick, Clark was treated merely as a sales gimmick. He was a “colored peep” — a chick whose feathers are dyed in spring pastel shades to attract buyers in search of a fun seasonal gift. Sadly, the fun typically stops there: Once the chicks shed their (colorful) baby down, their appeal is often forgotten. Thankfully, a compassionate person saw Clark as someone, not something, and asked us if we could offer him a permanent, loving home. This month marks 10 happy years since Clark’s arrival at Farm Sanctuary! Here, he’s seen as the individual he is — a gentle, sweet friend and a beloved companion to his hens. Once viewed as a mere plaything, Clark is now appreciated for his vibrant, colorful personality.

  Champagne - AAFA
In Champagne’s honor, we toast the beautiful lives made possible by your support! Sadly, Champagne’s early days offered no cause for celebration. As babies, she and her friends were abandoned in a backyard, a common occurrence for no-longer-wanted holiday presents. Fortunately, a compassionate neighbor contacted Farm Sanctuary for help. Today, Champagne is a farm animal ambassador who inspires compassionate change for other ducks just like her. These days, she enjoys the sparkling life she deserves — and her journey inspires us to raise a glass to the power of compassion!

Carlee - AAFA
It’s been said that good things come in small packages — and little Carlee is no exception! What this miniature sheep lacks in size, she makes up for in spirit — and she reminds us to greet the world with a spring in our step and a song in our hearts. But her life was not always this way. As a young adult, Carlee — mistaken for a young lamb because of her small size — was purchased as a gift for a child. She was kept in an urban neighborhood as a family pet — but the city is no place for a sheep, and though her guardians had good intentions, they were not equipped to provide the quality of life she deserved. Thankfully, they recognized this fact and reached out to Farm Sanctuary for help. These days, this once-terrified sheep is a beloved and thriving member of her flock — and her journey to sanctuary demonstrates how we can all blossom when we put compassion first.
